Chemo treatment begins tomorrow - 2/11/2009

Brenda's appointment today with the oncologist came with a plan of action that starts...TOMORROW! Brenda will undergo 5 months of chemo therapy, consisting of three different types of Chemo. Treatments will take place every two weeks for an hour and a half followed by an appointment the following day to receive injections to keep her blood count at safe levels. After 5 months the doctors are projecting a lumpectomy followed by radiation. There are many side affects to chemo as you all know. The doctors said she has 10 days left to enjoy her hair, and that includes her arms, legs etc... Nick and Brenda went straight from the oncologist to the wig store, and directly from Brenda's mouth, "No, Nick did not get his red head"! (I had no idea my dad liked red heads! The things you can learn, despite the circumstance, Ha!) They both seem to be in good spirits as the doctors are cramming them full of good information and what to expect the first half of 2010.

  1. Brennie,

I told you anytime you want me to shave my head I will, but the eyebrows will have to stay. I can't go to Big Lots or Walmart to have them show me how to address that issue as their makeup department is not quite up to snuff. A blue wig would be quite interesting, don't you think or maybe purple. Loving you. Barbie

  2. Wishing you a good night's rest tonight. Praying that you both will rest in God's love for you - even in the midst of such great a trial as this. Sending hugs your way! Terri

  3. Hi Brenda - you don't know me - but you know my husband, Kenny and I'm sure you know by now that I walked in your shoes 4 years ago and am still walking strong. I was diagnosed with stage 3A IDC - a 2.5 cm tumor. I had a mastectomy with a tram flap reconstruction - followed by 4 biweekly does of A/C then 12 weekly doses of taxotere. During that time I also had 6 weeks of radiation. Then because I am Her2 positive - I had infusions of Herceptin every 3 weeks for a year. I was on Tamoxifin for 2 years and because the chemo put me right through meno - I am on Femera for at least 5 years. The tumor had clear edges (meaning it didn't spread) but it had spread to my lymph nodes. To date I have had nothing but clean reports and my hair grew back exactly as it was prior to falling out! I was never sick a day during the chemo (you're right - the drugs they give you are amazing) - just some chemo brain which unfortunately I claim has never quite gone away :-) (it's my excuse for being scatterbrained and I'm sticking to it!) - If you have ANY questions at all or just want to talk about what's going on and what to expect - please to not hesitate to call or email me. I believe Kenny gave you guys my number. My email is wilsonkkks@verizon.net.
